WHAT IS DOCTRINE?
Doctrine is “what we believe and live by.” It also refers to what God wants us to do and be in this age. Having the right doctrine helps us understand God’s will and guides our actions accordingly.
WHY IS DOCTRINE IMPORTANT?
The importance of doctrine is emphasized in various passages in 1 Timothy (1:3, 10; 4:1,13; 5:17; 6:1, 3-5). False doctrine can arise when people twist Bible verses to create teachings contrary to the Word of God, publish corrupt bibles that promote false doctrine, or fail to rightly divide the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV)
HOW TO STUDY AND UNDERSTAND DOCTRINE?
To study doctrine, several books are recommended, but a plain King James Bible and a notebook are sufficient. Bible memorization and note-taking can enhance understanding and learning.
BIBLE DOCTRINES TO LEARN:
Doctrine is synonymous with “teaching,” but not all teachings fall under the category of “doctrine.” Studying Bible doctrines involves learning what the Bible teaches about various subjects, such as God (Theology), the Lord Jesus Christ (Christology), the Holy Spirit (Pneumatology), the Holy Bible (Bibliology), Man (Anthropology), Angels (Angelology), Sin (Hamartiology), Salvation (Soteriology), The Church (Ecclesiology), Last Things (Eschatology), and other essential beliefs and practices for Christian believers. The Bible serves as our ultimate authority in all matters of faith and practice.
